Update¶

apt update && apt upgrade -y

Choose an editor¶

sudo update-alternatives --config editor

Install¶

Create install USB¶

sudo dd if=/path-to-the-iso/ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=8M

sudo apt update

Packages¶

sudo apt install -y \
  net-tools \
  etckeeper

sudo update-alternatives --config editor

Install Unattended Upgrades¶

sudo apt install unattended-upgrades
sudo systemctl enable --now unattended-upgrades

WSL: While WSL does not support systemd by default, the package installs a daily cron job that should handle the updates.
